Traditional English music will be given an exciting twist at an event to be held in Cotmanhay this weekend.
Familiar folk tunes will be turned upside down when Gambian band Boka Halat perform with a mixture of African and English instruments, using African beats for an evening of song and dance.
They will begin with a concert to introduce the audience
to their music before tables and chairs will be moved and the dancing can begin.
The Afro-Ceilidh will feature English tunes with a difference to get as many people up and dancing as possible.
The evening is part of the Live and Local series of events, which promotes professional artists performing in unusual local venues, making it possible for people to enjoy professional entertainment at lower prices in a venue close to home.
This performance will take place at the Cotmanhay and Shipley Church Hall, on Vicarage Street, at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 20.
Tickets cost £6.50 for adults, £5 for OAPs, and £4.50 for children under 16. Family tickets are also available costing £17 for two adults and two children, and £11 for one adult and two children.
Live and Local performances will also take place in Heage and South Normanton.
